There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all.

Reception

Welcome to reception, where your child will start to build on the learning foundations they secured in nursery.

Getting Ready for Reception

We understand that all children develop at their own pace, and that we’re all learning from birth. When it’s time to start school, some children will need more help than others. There are key skills that schools expect children to be learning before their first day. Practising these will make your child’s journey to Reception as positive as possible. Please read the document below for more information.

Starting Reception - Your Child's Journey to School Starts at home

Below are some activities you can carry out with your child to get them ready to start reception.

About Reception

Here in reception, our aim is to provide children with a range of meaningful experiences in a secure and stimulating environment.

The Early Years is a little different to Key Stage 1 and 2. We follow the EYFS framework and our learning is based around this curriculum.

All children begin reception with different starting points and develop at different rates. By considering your child's needs, interests and stages of development, we aim to offer challenging and enjoyable experiences across the EYFS curriculum through topics.

Our learning is based around the revised Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum encouraging children's independent learning. The revised Early Years Foundation Stage is based on three prime and four specific areas of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Communication and Language (C&L)
  • Physical Development (PD)

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

It will be a pleasure for both yourselves, and for us to watch your child develop into independent learners as they spend more time with us. We can't wait to share both their school, and their home experiences with you throughout the year.
